Officer Ryan Tillman, a beloved school resource officer at Don Lugo High School in California, found a special way to say goodbye to the students.
After forming strong bonds during his time there, Tillman was leaving his role for a promotion to Chino Police Corporal.
Instead of a regular emotional farewell, he chose something more unforgettable.
Teaming up with the school’s principal and dance team, Officer Tillman set up a surprise dance show during an assembly.
Talking to NBC Los Angeles about his choice he said,
“I wanted to make a big exit so I thought what better way than dancing?”
He wasn’t just saying goodbye—he was creating an impression with a fun and memorable moment.
As the assembly started the excitement in the gym grew as Tillman joined the dancers on stage. When Lil Mama’s “Lip Gloss” began playing, they kicked off their performance.
While it might seem odd for an officer to dance in front of high schoolers Officer Tillman proved he was more than just law enforcement—he had some serious moves!
The students cheered loudly as he showed off his dancing skills.
Another school resource officer praised him saying:
“I’m also an SRO but I could NEVER get up in front of everyone and dance. Kudos for doing it! Many people don’t see how SROs must balance their roles with young people.”
But that wasn’t all!
Halfway through the routine when MC Hammer’s “U Can’t Touch This” played Tillman took everyone back by performing classic 90s moves.
He nailed MC Hammer’s shuffle which got even more cheers from the crowd!
The energy soared as he kept entertaining them moving through different songs and routines while wearing his full police uniform too!
One viewer summed it up well: “This is awesome! We need more of this.”
Officer Tillman’s performance didn’t just entertain; it showed off his fun side and commitment to building good relationships within the community.
He mentioned that his aim was to express thanks towards students and staff while also “shining a positive light” on police officers according to NBC Los Angeles.
Tillman is very dedicated towards improving community relations too. He started Breaking Barriers United which aims at “bridging gaps between law enforcement and communities.”
Their mission focuses on promoting openness & strengthening ties between officers & citizens.
The video of Officer Tillman’s farewell dance has gone viral capturing hearts everywhere!
One viewer shared their thoughts saying, “Every city needs a cop like you! Great job!”
While goodbyes can be sad Officer Tillman’s lively performance made leaving less gloomy & much more enjoyable.
